The Bearcats girls’ basketball team defeated Hayden to win its third game in a row last Tuesday, 56 – 20. The winning streak ended in the ‘Cats next game as they lost at St. John’s last Friday night, 53 – 43.

Sophomore Savannah Willis scored a game-high 16 points and was 1 of 10 Bearcats’ players to score in the victory over the Lobos. During the three-game winning streak, the ‘Cats defense held opponents to an average of less than 28 points per game.

Against St. Johns, the Bearcats fell behind early before closing the gap and trailing at the half, 27 – 26. The Redskins extended their slightly in third before outscoring the ‘Cats 19 – 12 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Sophomore Stormee Galka scored a game-high 17 points and junior Sideny Chenoweth added 12 points. The ‘Cats defense allowed more than 40 points for only the second time over its last seven games – both games were losses. They won the other five games.

Next up for the Bearcats is a game at San Manuel on January 28, 2014. The Miners boast a record of 20 – 4, are one of the top teams in Division IV, and have player of the year candidate Angelica Zuniga. Zuniga averages a double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds, per game. It figures to be a competitive game as the Bearcats’ have played consistently well over past three weeks.

Games against Cibecue on January 29 and at Ft. Thomas on January 31 follow the San Manuel game. All games are scheduled to tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
