The Bearcats girls’ basketball team put itself in good position to secure a sectional tournament spot by beating the Cibecue Wildcats last Wednesday, 71 – 56. The ‘Cats are currently in third place in the Section III standings.
After trailing at the end of the first quarter, 15 – 13, the ‘Cats outscored the Wildcats 26 – 10 in the second quarter to take a commanding lead at halftime. The Bearcats did not let the Wildcats close the gap in the second half and cruised to the win.
Sidney Chenoweth was 1 of 4 Bearcats’ players to score in double figures and scored a game-high 22 points. Stormee Galka (16), Breauna Hathaway (15), and Savannah Willis (12) were the other players to reach double digits.
The Bearcats close out their regular season with three straight home games including a game versus Division III Miami (AZ) on February 4, 2014. They’ll play Superior on February 5 before their regular season finale versus the section’s first-place team, Joseph City. Joseph City is currently undefeated in sectional play. All games are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
