Those who have not visited the La Serna store in a while will want to drop by and check out some of the big changes: in addition to the usual gifts and merchandise, shoppers can also grab a snack or meal.

After a year in business as a mostly gift and antique shop, store owner Betty Gallego has received her County and Town permitting to open a small restaurant.

Gallego is currently selling burgers, hot dogs, nachos, tamales and tacos along with soft drinks, sno-cones, and ice cream. She plans on adding barbecue chicken and other entrees in the near future.

Her kitchen is also available for rent to others who may need a catering kitchen for other events.

Merchandise available at the store includes dishes and pottery from San Miguel, Mexico, as well as other Mexican import items and collectibles.

With plans to also expand her front patio in the near future, Betty said she is excited for the new venture. “If you believe in yourself you can do anything,” she said.

La Serna is located at 29 North Pinal Avenue, in what was once Superior’s first grocery store. La Serna is open Tuesday to Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Betty can be reached for kitchen rentals or other inquiries at 520-689-2660.
