At the December Kearny Town Council meeting Mayor Hosler announced that Town Manager Gene Green has submitted his resignation. His last day with the Town of Kearny will be Jan. 8, 2014. In a phone interview Mayor Hosler commended Green for his service. “I admire that he is making his decision to resign based on what is best for his family, we really hate to lose him,” said Hosler. Green was about to complete his first year with the Town of Kearny. On the agenda of the January meeting the council will discuss appointing an interim town manager and beginning a search for a new manager.
The council also heard a presentation from Colby and Powell, the town’s auditors. The auditors reported that the town continues to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, and is a pleasure to work with. The only findings that the auditors found was concerning segregation of duties in coding transactions in accounting records. The auditors concluded that it was difficult to remedy these findings due to the small staff in the administration department at the town.
The council also voted to remain with Bank of the West for the time being to handle town banking business and authorized the Kearny Police Department to request grant funds from the Governors Office of Public Safety to purchase DUI Alcohol Enforcement Equipment. The department plans to purchase four portable breath testers which will cost around $1,000.
During the January council meeting the council will conduct a second public hearing in order to make a decision on how CDBG funds should be allocated in 2014. During the first public hearing in December the council discussed using the CDBG funding for road improvements, and water systems infrastructure.
