Recently the Kearny Koyotes 4-H Club made their way to the Pinal County Fair at Eleven Mile Corner near Casa Grande. This year the members of the club expanded their entries to compete in the 4-H rabbit, cooking, and art competitions. Members also entered the goat breeding and swine competitions held within the Pinal County Junior Livestock shows.
Lourdes Flores-Garcia earned the Sr. Novice Champion Showman for her rabbit exhibit, receiving a plaque and purple ribbon. She also received a blue ribbon in the breed competition. Maribel Flores-Garcia received red ribbons in the Jr. Novice Showmanship and breed competitions.
Hannah Deen, Hunter Day, and Isabella Wernett swept the Jr. “Chopped” cooking competition placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Their competition consisted of making an entrée where they were provided certain ingredients, but they had to come up with their own recipe.
Lourdes, Maribel, Rosalinda, Danny, and Armando Flores-Garcia received many outstanding purple and 1st place blue ribbons as well as a couple of 2nd place red ribbons, for their art exhibits, which included drawings, paintings, and photography.
Hannah Deen was our lone goat breeding competitor. She received a 3rd place ribbon in that competition and received a blue ribbon in showmanship.
The club’s biggest entry was the Swine project with Hunter Day, Armando Flores-Garcia, Eli, Allen, and Alena Martinez, Trysten Ortiz, Isabella Wernett, Rilley Sosa, Meiyah Stacy, Iiana, Brianna, Malena, and Serenity Goad all competing in the market and showmanship competitions. The entire group came away with blue ribbons in the market competition.

We had eight enter the swine pee-wee show; Jason and Hunter Day, Julianna and Xavier Granillo, Isabella and Kaylee Goad, Lainey Sosa, and Blake Ortiz. This is an opportunity for the younger soon to be 4-Her’s show their skills. They all received a medal personally from the Judge. The group also participated in the bonfire and pizza party, dance, and scavenger hunt held during the week for all members.
We as members and leaders would like to thank the community and surrounding areas for supporting our local 4-H club. Our success is contributed to the collaboration of the community, parents, and of course the members. As we continue to plan events for the upcoming season, we welcome any suggestions to help our group grow and prosper.
Our next project is our annual can food drive, taking place in Kearny, this Friday April 3, 2015 starting at 9:00 a.m. and over the summer plans for a community garden will be started.
