Kearny Elks holds local hoop shoot contest

The Kearny Elks held their 42 annual local hoop shoot contest on Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Ray High School Gym. Hayden/Winkelman School and Ray Schools helped the Elks to determine the first, second, and third place contestants that competed in the local shoot. The winners of the contest are: 8-9 year old girls: third place, Serenity Goad, second place, Marayah Estrada, and the winner, Alexis Gallego. In the 8-9 boys: third place, Rene Ochoa, second place, Moraes Cruz, and the winner is Deondre Collier. In the 10-11 year old girls: third place, Selena Corso, second place, Anita Lopez, and the winner Sarrah Perez. In the boys 10-11: third place was Tracon Naranjo, second place, Brandon Garner, and the winner is Manny Guillen. In the 12-13 year old girls: third place, Marissa Barragan, second place, Myranda Figueroa, and the winner was Brianna Goad. In the boys 12-13 year olds: third place Anthony Lopez, second place, Derek Figueroa, and the winner was Alex Carrillo.

The winners will advance to the district competition which will be held at the Ray High School Gym on Saturday, Jan. 10 beginning at 9:30. They will compete against other shooters in their age group from other schools in the East District.

The Elks would like to extend a special thank you to Ray Schools, and Superintendent Curt Cook for taking the time to make sure the gym was set up and ready for the shooters; to the Hayden/Winkelman schools for helping determine the shooters from their school and a very special thank you to all of the parents that support our program and their children.
