Kearny Elks hold annual Hoop Shoot

On Saturday, Dec. 07, 2013, the Kearny Elks Lodge hosted their 41st annual Local Hoop Shoot Contest. The first place winners will continue on to the district contest to be held at Ray High School Gym on Saturday, Jan. 4 beginning at 10 a.m.

In first place for the 8 and 9-year-old girls was Amariz Ochoa from Hayden/Winkelman schools, and in second place was Keyara O’Neil From Ray schools. In first place in the 8 and 9-year-old boys was Moreas Cruz from Hayden/Winkelman, and second place was Hunter Day from Ray. In the 10 and 11 girls first place was Brianna Goad from Ray, and Ahleah Arbizo in second from Hayden/Winkelman. In the 10 and 11-year-old boys first place went to Derek Figueroa from Ray, and in second place was Alexander Goad from Ray. First place girl in the 12 to 13-year-old division went to Myranda Figueroa from Ray, and in second place was Jaden Gonzales from Hayden. In the 12 and 13-year-old boys first place went to Anthony Lopez from Hayden/Winkelman, and second place was Tino Barragan also from Hayden/Winkelman.

Congratulations to all of the shooters. The Kearny Elks is very proud of the young people in our two communities and would like to thank the parents for supporting our program. The Elks would also like to extend a big thank you to both schools for helping us with this great youth program. And to Asarco for donating, backpacks, totes, basketball and T-shirts to all of the children that participated in the local shoot.
