The Superior Jr. Panthers took on Eloy in a battle of two undefeated teams on Mar. 27. Unfortunately the Panthers suffered their first loss of the season, 9 – 3.
Coach Lopez said the Panthers defense let them down as they had too many errors in the game. “That was the difference in the game.”
Lopez credited Eloy’s pitcher and said she pitched a very good game against the Panthers. Lopez believes there are lessons to be learned from the loss.
“My team is so young that I think (a loss like this) can be a good learning experience,” Lopez said. “We showed a lot of heart and didn’t give up. (Our girls) weren’t intimidated.”
The Panthers offense was led by Sivanna Lopez and Alicia Arriola.
In action late last month, the Superior Jr. High softball team defeated Ray Jr. High in a high scoring affair, 22 – 14. Superior Head Coach Joseph Lopez has his team focused and playing consistently well. They remained undefeated with the victory.
Lopez said he was happy with the offensive production from the Panthers. “Our offense just exploded. Everybody hit the ball and we were aggressive on the bases.”
The offensive stars for the Panthers were Amber Alonzo and Elizabeth Ochoa. Jalisa Murray was the winning pitcher.
