Mayor, Town of Kearny
Journey for a Clean Kearny: That is the prize-winning slogan authored by seventh-grader John Ink for the Town of Kearny’s beautification program. The year-long effort kicks off on Saturday, January 17, with a town-wide clean-up day. The town crew and many volunteers will take part in collecting trash and debris and hauling them away.
Former Mayor Rose Bradford has been working with a citizens’ committee planning the clean-up. She is seeking out groups and organizations who would like to help, so please contact her to offer your assistance.
The committee is working on ways to deal with the disposal of problematic items like tires, motor oil, paint, refrigerators, and hazardous materials. The NAPA store has already offered to take large batteries and dispose of them (no small batteries such as AA, please).
I hope everyone will begin working to gather items for disposal in the weeks ahead. Items brought to the curb will be collected. Paint in cans will be collected if the paint is dry, so start now by removing the lids and letting the paint dry.
As we move into 2015, this is a good time to remind everyone of the voucher program offered by Pinal County at the Dudleyville Landfill. Each year residents are entitled to vouchers for disposal of three separate loads. These vouchers may be acquired at the courthouse in Mammoth simply by presenting a current water bill establishing your residency. The person who uses the vouchers must be present when deliveries are made at the landfill. There is no charge for this service, and the vouchers are good for all of 2015. The landfill is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. until noon.
Posters announcing the clean-up day will soon be distributed. They will include John Ink’s Journey for a Clean Kearny slogan and the art work of 7-year-old Ada Wilhelmi.
There will be more events over the next few months as residents will be supported in their work of improving their homes and yards. Look for the Yard of the Month recognition which will begin soon. Also on tap: fix-up programs, yard improvement programs, and community plantings. Let’s take a journey, a journey for a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful town.
