SUPERIOR, Ariz. – The Superior Head Start staff, parents and students are looking forward to the upcoming two-week winter break.

As the holiday season draws near, the excitement mounts and conversation has turned towards foods that are enjoyed by the children, such as tamales and pastries. Each child has had an opportunity to tell what he or she is most thankful for and what they are looking forward to. Their artwork is focused on their unit study and the season.

The children are discussing the weather and celebrations associated with the approaching winter, as well as who they will visit and what they will wear. Many stories are being listened to about winter and family celebrations.. In addition, science experiments concerning the wonders of winter weather along with opportunities for developing social skills and making good healthy choices are strong themes in the classroom.

The children have been focusing on colors, the ones they see, use and which are their favorites, this past month. On Dec. 13, the children participated in hat day.

On Dec. 18, they had a show and tell where all the children were encouraged to participate by bringing something educational and/or their favorite toy.
OnDec. 19, the children are participated in a walking filed trip to the Resolution Copper Company Office, where they toured the office, listened to a story and learned about the copper mining industry in the community, as part of their school readiness activities.

Thurs., Dec. 20 will be the last class day. The Superior Head Start enrolled children have been invited to join the Miami Early and Preschool Head Start Program along with the Winkelman/Mammoth Early and Preschool Homebase Programs’ joint Winter Festival from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Miami.

The Globe-Miami Independent Motorcycle Rider Groups recently conducted a toy run making it possible for the enrolled Head Start children to receive a free gift.

The Superior Head Start children and staff would like to thank the community, clubs and organizations for their support of the program, and invites and welcomes the community members to come visit or volunteer in the program.
