Gale Everett Winslow
Gale Everett Winslow of Gilbert, Arizona, peacefully passed away on April 27, 2016 from natural causes, in his home with his family.
Everett was born in Tekoa, Washington on Nov. 16, 1929, to his parents, Ray and Katie Winslow, graduating from Tekoa High School in 1947. He served with distinction with the 2nd Armored Division during the Korean conflict, stationed in Germany until his Honorable Discharge in 1953.
He worked in the grocery business with Rosauer’s Groceries in Spokane for many years, before moving to Moses Lake, WA in the mid 1960’s, where he met and married the love of his life, Irma Kieran. They remained inseparable for 46 years. They soon moved to Ephrata, WA, and then to Connell, WA where he managed Jack’s Bargain Barn Grocery stores for many years. Their children raised, they moved to Wendell, Idaho, where they owned and operated Winslow’s Wendell Department Store until finally retiring to Gilbert, AZ in 2005.
Lifelong avid ‘rock hounds’, they traveled throughout the West, searching for rare and unusual rock specimens, attending various mineral shows both as buyers and sellers while Irma pursued her passion for photography. The family always looked forward to the yearly calendars they made from the wonderful photos Irma captured.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Odie and Delbert; sisters, Vera Derth and Bernetta Knopp; and two sons, Gale Winslow Jr. and Anthony Winslow. He is survived by his wife, Irma; sons, David (Terri), Andrew (Rosemary), Patrick Kieran (Nancy), Steve Kieran (Diane) and Jim Kieran (Olga); grandchildren, Andrew Jr, Janie, Anjie, Elizabeth, Jacob and Aimee Winslow, Skyler, Jessie, Megan, Whitney and Eric Kieran, Ian and Emily Logan; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Everett was buried with full military honors at National Memorial Cemetery of Phoenix Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. He will be sorely but dearly missed and remembered by his family and all who knew him. Sleep well Dad, and we will all see you soon, in our memories and in our dreams “by Golly”.
