Like to read? Interested in supporting a worthy cause? The Friends of the Kearny Library are looking for you. The association is currently recruiting new members to help support activities at the Arthur Pomeroy Library as well as provide financial support. The group is very active in Kearny, participating in Pioneer Days and the Electric Light Parade; they sponsor an annual play by the Traveling Lantern for elementary students; they sponsor a poster contest for primary students each year during Library Week in April. They most recently sponsored a home lighting contest during the Christmas season with the assistance of fellow sponsors: Gordon’s, Buzzy’s, Old Time Pizza, Big D’s Market, West End Cafe and Cosmic Coffee. Membership is very affordable: $5 for a single member and $10 for a family. Memberships help purchase books, videos, audio books, furnishings and other needed materials at the library. To donate, please make your check payable to the Friends of the Kearny Library, P.O. Box 220, Kearny, AZ 85137 or leave it at the library. Stop by and see the wonderful volunteers and experience all the great services offered at the library. Volunteers pictured include, from left: (front) Mary Louise Eck, Virginia Ochoa, Wanda Lundy; (back) Gwen Dinwiddie, Camie Boyd and Kathy Wright. (James Carnes photo)
