The Superior Panthers had four players named to the Division VI, Section IV All-Section team released by AIA365.com. Defensive back Matthew Zavala and linebacker Edgar Galindo were named to the first team. Running back Marcus Hiracheta and freshman quarterback Nicolaus Cruz were named to the second team.

Head coach Ryan Palmer said he was happy to see his players receive the recognition. The Panthers entered the season with a very young and inexperienced team. Palmer was satisfied with the players’ commitment to improve throughout the season.

“We will be returning all of our players next year,” he told the Superior Sun. “If these kids commit to putting in the work during the off-season then next season (has) a lot of potential.”

Here’s what Palmer said of each player who received post-season honors:

Zavala: “Matthew is a great athlete and a natural leader both on and off the field.”

Galindo: “Edgar led the team in tackles as a freshman despite battling injuries throughout the season.

Hiracheta: “Marcus has a lot of speed and is an explosive playmaker.”

Cruz: “(Nicolaus) has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in recent history at Superior.”
