By Mayor Sam Hosler, Town of Kearny
The new fire hydrants started being installed around town last week, and so far things are going very well. The contractor has the right equipment and skilled operators, so the holes are being dug with minimal damage to yards and the hydrants and valves are quickly installed. No one is happier about this improvement than our volunteer fire fighters.
Bids are being solicited for some important road work. Public Works is seeking paving on Mountain View Road and the 400 blocks of Essex, Fairhaven, and Greenwich. Crack repair, leveling, and sealing will be done on Alden Road. Work will begin soon after the contract is let.
Well, we finally have recycling back in Kearny. The new site is on Emery Road in the gated yard next to the tall eucalyptus tree. There is one large container with easier access than the old ones we used. The county has erected a sign clearly listing what can, and what cannot, be placed in the bin. The yard will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The container is quite large, but we must be careful about placing too much in it because of wind and transportation needs. So I ask that all of us break down our boxes and make them as flat as possible, allowing more room for everyone. We thank Pinal County for helping to make this possible.
There will be a special budget meeting of the Town Council on Thursday, July 28, at 6 p.m. This is a tough year to match town needs with available resources.
Our municipal pool will be open through Saturday, July 30. I sure wish we could keep it open longer, but school begins in early August and our pool manager and lifeguards will not be available. So, everyone, make good use of the pool while it is available. I’m thankful to everyone who made our renovated pool possible.
Finally, Eagle One’s visit to Kearny brought out the largest number of veterans the mobile unit has worked with in any town in Pinal County! The mobile center will make a special return on Tuesday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
