Saint Francis of Assisi Fiesta Committee has scheduled the annual Fiesta Golf Tournament for Saturday, May 9, at the Queen Valley Golf Club in Queen Valley.

The tournament is open to the public. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. with tee-off at 7:30 a.m. The tourney is a fundraiser for the 36th annual Fiesta, held each September on the church grounds at Church Ave. and Main St.

The tournament has a three-man scramble format with a fee of $45 per player. The fee includes the golf fee, golf cart and lunch. The cash prizes offered for first, second and third places will be based on the number of entries. The tournament will include prizes for the Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin, as well as various giveaways. There are 18 hole sponsorships available at $50 a hole. Any club organization, business or individual who would like to sponsor a hole can call the church office at 520-689-2250.

The committee is accepting donations for the giveaways. For more information on the types of donations requested and to register for the tournament, call the number listed above.

In other Fiesta news, the Fiesta Committee is still seeking candidates for Fiesta Queen. Queen candidates are being actively sought and all young ladies of the local area ages five to 18 are strongly urged to consider being queen candidates. Candidates do not have to be members of the Catholic Church. Each candidate will receive a formal gown, a crown, shoes, a sash and 10 percent of the funds which they raise. Marcella Garcia is in charge of the queen candidates and their projects. She can be reached at 480-939-1313. Information can also be obtained by calling the church office.

A number of themes have been considered for this year’s Fiesta, but has been selected as yet. The Fiesta Committee is accepting ideas or suggestions. All are invited to call the church office with their input.
