Ruby Cervantes

The Superior Town Council voted unanimously to hire Ruby Cervantes as the Town Clerk for the Town during their June meeting.  Laws in the State of Arizona require every incorporated town and city to have a Town Clerk. The Town Clerk position, is a very important position, the Clerk is required to keep and maintain all official Town minutes and documents for the public record, conduct elections and serve as the Town Treasurer.  The position requires appointment by the Town Council.  In the absence of a Town Manager, many smaller municipalities will have their Clerk serve as the Manager as well.  Prior to Cervantes being appointed by the Town Council, Town Manager, Todd Pryor served as the Town Clerk.

The Town of Superior has not had a full-time Town Clerk in many years, meaning that much of the mandatory work of the Clerk has been delegated between the Town Manager, Deputy Town Clerk and other administrative staff.  Over the past two years, the Town has encouraged staff to attend trainings and courses to allow them to improve and grow in their positions.

Cervantes has been working for the Town of Superior since 2012.  She started as an administrative aide then transitioned into a finance role, before her promotion to become the Town Clerk, Cervantes served as the Accounts Payable/Finance Clerk.  During her position as Finance Clerk, she was instrumental in setting up systems and procedures to ensure that internal operations within the Town worked in sync with State Laws and within the needs of  Town finance contractors, Colby and Powell along with auditors.  Prior to her employment with the Town of Superior she worked as the Office Manager for the Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for 22 years.

She explained that she is excited for this new chapter in her career with the Town of Superior.

“I really enjoy learning new things, and I am excited to put the trainings I have received into practice,” she said.

Her long term goal is become an Arizona Certified Municipal Clerk and Elections Officer.   In her free time, she enjoys going to karaoke and spending time with her friends and family.

Elizabeth Magallanez

With Cervantes, being promoted to Town Clerk, the Town hired a new Accounts Payable/Receivables Clerk.  Returning to the Superior Town Hall, in this position is Elizabeth Magallanez.  Magallanez is a familiar face to most in Superior, she has worked as a front desk clerk and Interim Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Superior, she was a member of the Community Relations team for Resolution Copper and most recently served as a Community Outreach Coordinator for the Centrix Health Resources, formerly known as Gemini Hospice.  She and her husband Max also have served as advisors to the Catholic Youth Ministries and were the founders of the Superior Substance Abuse Coalition.  She is also a Valle del Sol Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI)  graduate and also serves as the HLI-Copper Corridor Facilitator.

Magallanez is happy to return to employment with the Town of Superior “I am excited to be part of the staff and support all of the new activities and progress in Town” she said.   In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, listening to music and dancing.

The Town will be honoring Nora Miramon, who will be retiring from her position as the Deputy Town Clerk in August.
