Early Morning Shooting Sends Victim to Hospital

Superior Police Department responded to an early morning shooting on Wednesday in the 900 block of Contreras Dr.  The shooting occured at approximately 6:45am.

The shooting happened after a group altercation where the shooter Julio Velazquez took the gun from the victim Manuelito Gomez.  Velazquez then shot Gomez in the left arm.  There were no other injuries and the shooter fled the scene.

Gomez was airlifted to a valley hospital with non life threatening injuries.  He is expected to recover.

Velasquez was apprehended four hours later in the laundromat of the apartments on Lobb Ave., the weapon was also recovered.  Velasquez was charged with aggravated assault, misconduct with a weapon, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana.  He was also apprehended on two outstanding warrants from the Superior/Kearny Justice Court.  Velazquez is in custody at the Pinal County Jail in Florence.
