There is a new flagpole at the San Manuel Presbyterian Church at McNab and First Avenue. The flagpole was the Eagle Scout project for Michael Garcia.

On Sunday, Nov. 13, Michael was recognized and a flagpole dedication was held at the church. Michael said the project was hard. It took six days for him and his crew to complete. He thanked Bruce Trotere from San Manuel Ace Hardware who donated all the materials including the flagpoles for the project. Michael is now an Eagle Scout of the Catalina Council Troop 822.  Michael is 18 years old and the son of David and Elizabeth Garcia.

Pastor Jeffrey Dixon spoke at the dedication.  He talked about how in times of turmoil he liked to go back to our country’s roots. He read Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and talked about “how hard won our freedom has been.” He spoke of our country’s veterans including member of his church congregation that “flew in these planes and held rifles, just American citizens who did what they had to do.”

“The flags here will be a unifying symbol for the community,” Dixon said.

The people in attendance said the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang the Star Spangled Banner.
