Dry Heat: Yes, Trump is Deplorable

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

Deplorable, a word meaning deserving strong condemnation or shockingly bad in quality, was used by Hillary Clinton in describing half of Donald Trump’s followers. Trump arrogantly called for her to apologize. I found his demand to be laughable considering he has insulted the people of Mexico, Americans of Mexican ancestry, the LGBT community, people with disabilities, African Americans, veterans, Muslims and the Gold Star parents of a soldier killed in action. Where are your apologies, Mr. Trump?

Although Hillary may have been a tad overzealous in speaking about a basket half full of deplorables, her comment may be more truthful than we would like to believe. If the latest polls are correct she was talking about a little over 20% of the electorate. I would like to believe that it is a smaller percentage of Americans that belong to or support the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, border militia groups, racists, white supremacists or nativists, all of whom I find worse than deplorable. However statistics show that over 60% of Trump’s supporters believe that President Obama is a Muslim and 59% say he wasn’t born in the United States. Now that Trump has said President Obama was born in the U.S. his followers may change their minds. He hasn’t apologized for perpetuating this lie for the last eight years. Is this belief by his followers the result of ignorance or are there bigotry or racist views involved?  Either way, Trump’s behavior and his courting of the alt right and hate groups is despicable and deplorable.
