APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. – Central Arizona College’s Superstition Mountain Campus will offer the college’s nationally-recognized and credentialed Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program (CCEMTP) course during the spring semester.

One section of the course, officially known as Critical Care for Paramedics (EMS275), is a six-week class held on Thursdays and Fridays (8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) at CAC’s location in the city of Apache Junction. The course will begin on Thursday, March 28, and run through Friday, May 3, with the final CCEMTP written exam administered on Saturday, May 4.

The course is open to any currently-certified or licensed paramedic, registered nurse or respiratory therapist with a recommended one year of experience in their respective discipline. One-hundred percent attendance is required for learners to be eligible to take the CCEMTP exam. Course tuition is $958 per person.

The nationally-recognized CCEMTP program and credential was developed by the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) to provide paramedic, registered nurse or respiratory therapists with an educational foundation to safely and effectively manage critically-ill and injured patients who require interhospital transfer.

CAC’s EMS faculty includes highly-experienced and actively-practicing critical care transport medicine clinicians. CCEMTP can provide an extensive review of concepts to help prepare students for critical care transport board certification examinations.

Among the topics discussed in the course are:

-Transport Physiology

-Airway Management

-Shock Management

-Trauma/Burn Management

-Cardiovascular Emergencies Including 12/15 ECG Interpretation

Successful completion of the course grants participants a nationally-recognized CCEMTP credential, awarded by UMBC, 5.25 credit hours through CAC, and 104 Continuing Education Units that can be applied toward state or National Registry of EMTs Paramedic Recertification or licensure renewal.

The CCEMTP course is a continuing education activity approved by UMBC, an organization accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services.
