Royal John Medley reads his ‘cowboy poetry’.

Royal John Medley recited some of his “Cowboy Poetry” at the Acadia Ranch Museum on May 5.

John doesn’t consider it cowboy poetry because he doesn’t ride a horse and never roped a cow. He says it’s more like campfire stories or “Western Stories That Rhyme.”

John is a published author, having written books on the art and history of produce crate labels. He is also an historian and recently gave a presentation on “Art, Adoption and Appropriation: Hopi Imagery and the Arizona Citrus Industry 1920 – 1950” at the Arizona and New Mexico History Convention in Flagstaff.

The event was well attended. John’s stories were entertaining and humorous and enjoyed by all. Following the poetry, refreshments were served including Margaritas as a salute to Cinco de Mayo.
