‘Here Comes Santa Claus’ is a favorite song for children during the Christmas season, and, he will be arriving in Kearny via the Electric Light Parade on Saturday, Dec. 6. Festivities start at 3 p.m. with arts and crafts vendors set up in the mall area on Alden St. There will be music filling the air as you check out the vendors and merchants may have some of their holiday specials set out in front of their stores.

The parade route has changed because all the activity has moved to Alden St. Floats, vehicles, individuals and marching groups may start lining up in front of the Kearny Town Hall at 5 p.m. with check in at the side of the library.

While you are waiting for the parade to begin, you may enjoy a bowl of menudo or posole sold by the Chamber, hot chocolate and cookies sold by Junior Chamber members, or, any combination of them all.

The theme of the parade is “Celebrating Our Heritage with Christmas Music’ and is very easy to depict whether you are decorating a truck, a bicycle, ATV or individuals. Toys on Parade, Babes in Toyland, Nutcracker, White Christmas, Joy to the World, Away in a Manager or Silent Night are just a few of the many songs that can be used.

The ever popular Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be the last float in the parade and will stop in front of the Pinal County Building to greet the children, as they line up to tell Santa their most wished for gift.

The Love Light angels and luminarios will be available for sale the night of the parade with the ceremony to be held Friday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Pinal County building. The names will be read as each angel is hung on the tree and the luminarios will be lit, casting their warm glow upon Alden St. Each light or angel is in memory of or in honor of special people dear to the hearts of those in the Copper Basin area. The ceremonies tug at the heart of those present.

Line Tilbury St. or spend the evening on Alden St. as the Copper Basin area officially begins the Christmas season.
