Superior’s and Kearny’s July 4th celebrations will culminate in fireworks!

The whole Copper Basin will have a full Fourth of July experience this year. The events begin in Hubbard Park at 11 a.m. on Independence Day, with the Volunteer Fire Department grilling free hot dogs and town workers dispensing watermelon, popcorn, and snowcones. The kindly folk at Church of the Good Shepherd will have their popular train making its way around the perimeter.

We will all want to gather in front of the Municipal Pool at 12:45 p.m. for its brief rededication ceremony. Special thanks will be given to the many people who gave money or their service to make our rebuilt pool possible. The ceremony will close with the group singing of The Star Spangled Banner.

That’s not all. The Kearny Volunteer Fire Fighters and the volunteer fire departments of the Copper Basin will stage a wonderful display of fireworks at the ball field. It will begin at the magic moment when the first burst takes place, when there’s a little light outlining the mountains and the sky is approaching its deepest black. These volunteers, who do so much for us with their training and skills, honor us with this display of our freedom.

The Town of Superior will host a Superior Fourth of July celebration at the pool on Monday, July 4, to celebrate Independence Day.  The event begins with free swimming at the public pool at noon. The free food and festivities will begin at 4 p.m. at the Swimming Pool park.  There will be a bouncy castle and slide and a DJ will entertain with music.

Resolution Copper is sponsoring the fireworks this year. They will be shot from mine property, near the water treatment plant. The display will include 1,322 aerial effects and will take from 15 to 20 minutes. The fireworks will begin as soon as it is full dark, sometime after 8 pm. If the fireworks are rained out, they will be fired off the day after.

Many local business and organizations made financial contributions to the Town of Superior to provide this free event for the community, including Resolution Copper Mining, OMYA, Safety Miners, Superior Chamber of Commerce, John Tameron, Red Bear Outfitters, Superior Optimist Club, Superior Environmental, and Save Money Market.
