Baseball– The Lobos opened the 2015 season with a win at home against Arete Prep, 7 – 5. Unfortunately it’s the team’s only win of the season so far after losing its next three game against Superior (11 – 0), Florence (6 – 5), and Santa Cruz Valley (8 – 0). Upcoming schedule: Mar. 14 at Duncan (12 p.m.) and Mar. 17 at San Manuel (4 p.m.)

Softball– The Lady Lobos started their season with one win sandwiched between two losses, including an 18 – 3 defeat in their opener against Thatcher. That loss was followed by a win at home versus Amphitheater (6 – 5) and then another lopsided loss at Superior, 15 – 5. Upcoming schedule: Mar. 14 at Duncan (12 p.m.) and Mar. 17 at San Manuel (4 p.m.).

Baseball– The seventh-ranked Bearcats went 0-2-1 during pool play of last week’s Joe S. Padilla Tournament before winning both games in bracket play, defeating San Tan Foothills (6 – 2) and Round Valley (11 – 2). The Cats tie game came against Round Valley earlier in the week. Upcoming schedule: Mar. 13 vs. San Carlos (4 p.m.).

Softball– The Lady Cats won the Noel Morris Softball Tournament which took place last weekend at Valley Union High School. The Cats were one of six teams competing in the two-day tournament, including Valley Union, Pima, Ft. Thomas, St. David and Bisbee. Currently ranked third in the state, according to the most recent rankings released by azcentral.com, the Lady Cats figure to be one of only a handful of teams who can be considered state title contenders. Last weekend’s tournament provided an opportunity for head coach Rikki Galka to get her less experienced players some valuable playing time. Galka knows this year’s team has a chance to be special, saying, “I am excited about our Bearcat team.” Upcoming schedule: Mar. 13 double-header vs. San Carlos (4 p.m. & 6 p.m.).
