Coolidge ends Lady Miners’ winning streak

San Manuel Miner

The San Manuel girls’ basketball team headed into the holiday breaks with a seven-game winning streak and ranked fifth in the state. The Miners were defeated by the Coolidge Bears in their first game of the San Manuel Holiday Classic tournament, 33- 22. The Miners rebounded to win their next three tournament games to start a new winning streak.

After the holiday break, the Miners returned to action and defeated the Academy of Tucson and Gilbert Classical Academy before losing to St. Gregory College Prep.

The Miners held the Academy of Tucson and Gilbert Classical Academy to a combined 17 points in the two victories.

Angela Zuniga once again led the way for the Miners in the win over Gilbert Classical Academy on January 8, 2014. She had 32 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. Analisa Robles added 10 points and 6 rebounds. Kadi Monfred had 8 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals. Freshman Ashley Vargas was a perfect 3 for 3 from the field and finished with 6 points. The Miners’ defense totaled 29 steals in the game.

The Miners will play Arizona College Prep on January 17 before traveling to Mesa Prep on January 21. Both games begin 5:30 p.m.
