The Comets are back on the mat preparing for the upcoming wrestling season. For the last month, they have focused on strength and conditioning and preseason competition.

The Comets traveled to Marana Mt. View to compete at the Megatron & Freakshow Qualifier (K-12). The top three finishers in each weight class gets free entry into those two tri-state tournaments.

With seven state champions and over 40 state placers in attendance made this qualifier a gauntlet.

Marty Rodriguez and Jared Gonzalez placed fifth and sixth in weight classes with over 18 wrestlers. Cisco Medina, Marco Salas and Frankie Tamayo wrestled tough but came up short in their respected weight classes.

Coach Larry Willbanks from Grand Canyon University gave a free wrestling clinic before the tournament. The Comets will compete at the Cholla Takedown Tournament on Oct. 6, 2012.
