Clerk explains property taxes

In response to the “Perception of a ‘new Mammoth’ is not a reality’ article by non-resident Dan Anthony: The facts are as follows.

1. Mammoth is not spending 16% on property taxes: the town pays NO property tax on any property that is owned by the town.

2. The 16,490 acres mentioned does not belong to the town, but has been annexed by the town and is owned by Fairfield Homes.

3. The town actually collects property tax for that vacant property.

4. In April of 2014, I stated that we were not raising property tax, therefore taxes remained the same.

5. Again, properties owned by the town of Mammoth are exempt from property tax./s/ Patsy Large

Editor’s Note: Mr. Anthony was made aware of the above facts and contacted the Miner last week to request that his letter be held. He did not contact the Miner before the newspaper went to press.
