Claude ‘CJ’ Curtis Jackson Sr.

  Claude “CJ” Curtis Jackson Sr. passed away at the age of 86 on Nov. 11, 2019 at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe, AZ. 

  Curtis was born on Feb. 9, 1933 in Sicily Island, Louisiana to Hardy and Lillie Jackson.  He grew up in Ajo, Arizona where he met his wife, Eva Rosalie McDowell. They were married on April 17, 1950.  They raised one son and three daughters in Ajo and Kearny, AZ.

  Curtis worked at Phelps Dodge in Ajo, AZ and at Kennecott in Hayden, AZ.  Curtis was a hardworking entrepreneur and owned many businesses in the Kearny/Hayden area including the One Stop and C.J. Market.  His family loves and admires him for his work ethic and strong desire to provide for his family. Curtis had 16 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  Curtis was known by family as Papaw.

  Curtis is survived by his brother, Howard Delano Jackson; his three daughters and their husbands, Rose Ann and Harold Eaton, Cheryl and Warren Chester, and Mark and Darlene Shumway.  

  Curtis is preceded in death by his wife, Eva; his son, Claude Curtis Jackson Jr.; brothers and sisters, Hardy James Jackson Jr., James Wesley Jackson, Billie Inez Shackelford and Ione Ida Jackson; and a great-grandson, Myles Alexander Migliore. 

  He will be greatly missed!

  Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kearny, AZ. 

  The family was assisted with exceptional service by Griffith Mortuary.
