Charles E. Chappel, age 93, passed away on May 21, 2012 at Grand Chateau in Menifee, California.
He was born on July 5, 1918 to David D. Chappel and Winnifred Pearl Lacy. He had been a resident of Banning, California for 38 years, previously of Hayden for 16 years, Denver, Colorado, for four years and Redlands, California, for 17 years.
Charles had an auto parts route which included California, Arizona and New Mexico. Then he bought Banning Auto Parts and ran it for 33 years.
He proudly served as a Navy Seebee during World War II. When the war was over, he came home on the carrier Saratoga. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Summit Cemetery Board, American Legion,VFW and volunteered at the V.A. Hospital. He received numerous awards for volunteer work in the community. He was also a member of Banning United Methodist Church and also active in the Southern California Nash Car Club and Antique Auto Club of America.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Karen (Richard) Lacasse of Menifee, California; son, Nolan Chappel of Banning, California; granddaughter, Denise (Mike) Burns of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; grandson, Kevin Eklund of Menifee, California; great-granddaughter, Leighton Burns of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; sister, Margaret Paulson; two nieces, Patricia (Al) Rios and Tamela Paulson; and four grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Winnie Chappel, and grandson, Nolan M. Chappel, and parents David and Winnifred Chappel.
Family suggests memorials be made to Companion Hospice, Riverside, California.
