Earlier this month, friends and family of Harold and Peggy Cassell helped the couple celebrate their seventy-fifth wedding anniversary at a party held at the San Manuel Elks Club.

Harold and Peggy Cassell met while they were sophomores at Hobbs High School in Hobbs, New Mexico, in 1935 and dated during their junior year in 1936.

After graduating from Hobbs High School they married on Oct. 17,1937 in Carlsbad, NM. They had been married a few years and were living in Madison, Indiana, when their first and only child, Sylvia, was born on Dec. 8, 1939.

In 1942, the Cassell family moved to Silver City, NM and a year later in 1943 Harold was drafted and sent to Okinawa. On April 6, 1944, Harold was wounded while serving his country and on Oct. 17, 1944, he was discharged.

After his discharge he went on to work for Kennecott Corporation in Hurley, NM, and shortly thereafter they picked up and moved again to San Manuel on Dec. 12, 1955.

In Dec. 1976, they again moved but this time to Ilo, Peru. When it was time to move from there they decided to move back to San Manuel, where Harold and Peggy retired and continue to live today.

After retiring they found their love for traveling, camping and fishing at Roosevelt, the White Mountains and Honda. They spend their summers up in Holiday Forest where they now own a house.

As you can see these are two people that have lived a very fulfilled life, living all over the country and enjoying their family that started with one daughter and has grown to include three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

They are very special people who are so extremely loved and adored by their family.
