Jesse Camarena and Alfred Barragan cleaned up on trophies and cash prizes at St. Bartholomew’s annual Fiesta de la Primavera horseshoe tournament last Saturday, taking first place in two separate tournaments.
The first tournament, for trophies, was a “blind draw” to decide teams while the second, a split the pot tournament, partners chose their own teams. Camarena and Barragan decided to stay a team and won the second tournament as well.
Second place trophies went to Manny Laguna and Gilbert Sanchez, third place to Frankie Corona and Herman Fry.
Tony Ramirez and Greg Carbajal took fourth place while Jesse Camarena Sr. and Joe Gonzales teamed up for the fifth place trophy.
Abe Romo and family and Albert Estrada, along with judges Arnold Estrada, Carter Olson, Gilbert Figueroa and Kevin White donated trophies for the top five places.
Nine teams competed in the trophy tournament according tournament director Roberto Estrada.
“I’d like to thank all the people who threw horse shoes and also my family members who helped run the tournament,” Estrada said.
“Raquel and Isiah Ramirez, Mundy and Arnold Estrada and Joe Gonzales made the tournament run smoothly,” Estrada added.
