Five students and one faculty member were inducted to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Shantelle Archunde, Cheyenne Dickey, Kandace Kelly, David Rowlands and Lorena Villanueva, along with CAC faculty member Maren Wilson, were inducted during the ceremony last Tuesday evening, April 16.
The annual ceremony allows for the students to celebrate this honor with family and friends and be officially inducted to the honor society.
The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize the academic achievement of two year college students and to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programs.
Benny DeSantiago, one of CAC’s coordinators of community outreach, became an honorary inductee for his service to the Alpha Theta Delta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the Aravaipa Campus.
The ceremony included encouraging remarks from Terri Ackland, Dean of Arts and Sciences. Ackland encouraged the members to use this honor to further opportunities and to fellowship with others. The governing board members and Dean Doris Helmich were also present to celebrate the induction of the honor students.
The Phi Theta Kappa members also elected their officers for the coming year. President was Shantelle Archunde, vice president was David Rowlands and secretary was Mercedes Lopez.
