With the fire danger listed at “very high” by local fire departments, Pinal County Supervisor Pete Rios’s office reminds residents of Eastern Pinal County that a burn ban is in effect.

There are “many residents throughout the areas still burning,” the supervisor’s office reported.

The ban is not new to the area. The Dudleyville Fire Department institutes a ban on burning from May 1 through Sept. 30 annually in an effort to prevent wildfires – wildfires like the one that closed Highway 77 near Winkelman on Saturday.

Highway 77 was closed by the Arizona Department of Transportation Saturday from Oracle Junction to Globe for vehicles heading from Tucson to Globe. Traffic was routed through Florence then to US 60. The highway was open to local traffic. Firefighters from Dudleyville, Winkelman, Hayden and Canyon Fire Departments worked the fire. (James Carnes photos)
