Both Miners’ track teams win Sectional Championships

The boys’ and girls’ Track & Field teams each won the Division IV, Section II South Championships.

Individual sectional champions include:

Carlos Salas – Pole Vault; 4 x 100m Relay Team (Andres Rodriguez, Randy Verdugo, Andrew Gomez, and Jose Damian); Andrea Castaneda – 3200m; Cita Sweeney – Shot Put; and Stephanie Morris – Discus.

“(We’re) very proud of the whole team,” said Miners’ head coach Maria Lopez. “They all came together, stepped up their efforts, and earned points for the team.”

The following athletes will represented the Miners at the 2015 Division IV State Track Meet, which took place last weekend.

Boys:

Andres Rodriguez: 110HH and 300IH.

Jared Gonzales: 110HH and 300IH.

Carlos Salas: 110HH and PV.

Marco Salas: PV.

Patrick Lopez: PV.

Colbey Stratton: PV.

Michael Sanchez: Discus

4x100m Relay: Randy Verdugo, Antonio Montes, Andrew Gomez, and Jose Damian)

4x400m Relay: (Randy Verdugo, Antonio Montes, Andrew Gomez, and James Duarte)

4x800m Relay: (Patrick Lopez, Juan Ortega, Colton Stratton, and James Duarte)

Girls:

4×800 Relay: (Eneida Quintero, Sabrina Duarte, Diana Medina, and Andrea Castaneda)

Leticia Vargas: 200m.

Andrea Castaneda: 3200m.

Jade Willard: Triple Jump.

Angelica Garcia: Triple Jump,

Cita Sweeney: Shot and Discus.

Stephanie Morris: Shot and Discus.
