Blazers softball start off fall season with two wins

The Blazers playing in the Tucson Baja League faced off against the Bulldogs for a double header at Juhan Park.

In the first game of the morning the Blazers off to a slow start fell into a 3-0 hole after the first inning. The Blazers chipped away at the lead in the second inning scoring two runs.

The defense held the Bulldogs to one run in the fourth while the Blazers offense woke up scoring 13 runs over the next three innings ending the game in the fifth inning with a final score 15-4.

Starting on the mound was Daniella Hinojos (4K/1W/3ER) for three innings and Nikki Baldenegro (3K/1W/1ER) closing the game for two innings. Offensively, the Blazers were led by Ahleah Arbizo (2-3), Nikki Baldenegro (2-4), and Brianna Galarza (2-4, 2 doubles).

In the second game of the morning, the Blazers started a little slow again. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the first inning, while the Blazers managed to muster up three runs to keep it close.

Going into the bottom of the third the score still at 5-3, the Blazers bats woke up again in the late innings scoring 14 runs over the next three innings while holding the Bulldogs scoreless.

The final score 17-5 in favor of the Blazers.

Starting on the mound for the Blazers was Brianna Galarza (1K/3W/5ER) and closing the game Daniella Hinojos (2K/0W/0ER). Blazer bats were led by Ahleah Arbizo (2-3), Nikki Baldenegro (2-4, 2HR), Brianna Galarza (2-4, dble), Emma Alavarado (2-4), and Sydney Contreras (2-4).

Up next for Blazer Softball, the 12u team plays a doubleheader on Sat., Sept. 15 against Oro Valley at 6:00 p.m. inTucsonand the 16u team will play Sun., Sept. 16at 6:30 p.m. in the second annual community softball game which puts the Hayden Fire Dept. and Police Dept. players against the Blazers in a “Fastpitch” duel.

The Fire/Police Dept. team (Guns n Hoses’) won last year 7-5. Come out and support your favorite firefighter or police officer at the H-W Little League Field on Sunday.
