In the first game of the evening, the Blazers faced the number one Oro Valley team, the Gators. The Blazers started off placing runners on third and second, but were unable to bring the runners around in the first inning.
The Blazers held the Gators the first inning and in the second and third innings the Blazers found out what carried the Gators as the pitchers in the second and third innings retired six Blazer batters 1-2-3, 1-2-3.
Three unearned runs on four errors led to a 3-0 lead for the Gators after 3 innings. The Blazers were unable to get any offense started in the later innings as the two Gator pitchers combined to register 15 strikeouts over six innings of play.
The final score 5-0 in favor of Oro Valley. Starting on the mound Daniella Hinojos (1K/1W/0 ER) for two innings and Nikki Baldenegro (2K/0W/2ER) relieving for three.
The second game of the doubleheader was slightly more interesting as the Blazers faced a total of fourOroValleypitchers this game.
The Blazers jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after the first. The Gators scored two runs in the second, as the Blazers scored none. The third inning the Blazers scored four runs and the Gators none.
The fourth inning the Gators scored three runs and the Blazers none, bring around the top of the fifth inning with the Blazers holding on to a slim 7-6 lead.
The Blazers defense slowly gave the game away in the fifth inning, registering three errors and two walks in the inning giving way to five runs for another loss with the final score being 11-7.
Starting on the mound was Daniella Hinojos (1K/3W/4 ER) and Nikki Baldenegro (1K/0W/2 ER) relieving for two innings. Offensively the Blazers were led by Julie Meza (2-2), Brianna Galarza (2-3), Daniella Hinojos (2-3), Destiny Gonzales (1-2), and Emma Alvarado (1-2). Up next for the Blazers, Oro Valley’s second-ranked team team.
