Bicyclist killed near Oracle

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, at approximately 6:37 p.m., officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety were dispatched to milepost 99.3 on Hwy. 77, Oracle. It was reported that a vehicle had struck a bicyclist.

According to the DPS Public Information Officer, Quentin Mehr, a pickup truck, driven by Gary L. Colvin, 44, Tucson, struck a bicycle, ridden by Raphael D. Sagarin, 43, Tucson, from behind, throwing Sagarin off his bicycle. Both were northbound on Hwy. 77.

Sagarin was fatally injured in the accident. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The accident is currently under investigation.

UPDATED INFO:

Gary L. Colvin was allegedly impaired at the time of the collision.  He was arrested and booked into the Pinal County Jail on a charge of manslaughter.  Further charges are pending.
