Benson announces resignation from Superior School Board

Due to illness, I am submitting my resignation as a member of the Superior Unified School District Governing Board effective july 15, 2015. I feel I can no longer contribute to the capacity that is necessary to be of good service to the District.

I want to thank the people of Superior for the many years of service they have allowed me to give to the District. First, I came in as a young, immature English teacher and with the support of the community, parents, students and colleagues I believe I grew to understand that teaching and learning needed to be student-centered and everything else will fall into place. Secondly, as a counselor I was able to hone those skills in a different arena where I learned that students can go as far as their dreams may carry them. As educators we merely act as their guides and help them find the opportunities that are in store for them. Lastly, the electors of the community elected me to sit on the Governing Board and put their faith in me to make decisions that will be beneficial for our school district. During the seven plus years I have served on the Board I have learned that as long as our decisions are based on what is right for our students, we can’t go wrong.

I also want to thank my colleagues on the Board over the years. I feel that we worked very hard and collaboratively, thinking only of the good of the District. My best wishes will always be with the School District and if I can continue in any kind of advisory capacity, please always feel free to call.

Sincerely,/s/ Cynthia Benson
