The Bearcats’ Girls’ Volleyball team started the season with a record of 2 – 1. Since then they have won four consecutive games. All of the victories during the winning streak have been shutouts.
Head coach Nikki Galka said the team continues to improve in all areas and the results of their hard work are beginning to show.
“When the team is focused on playing together we are able to achieve a high level of success,” Galka said.
The Bearcats defeated Gilbert Classical Academy, Fort Thomas, Patagonia, and Hayden during the streak.
In the contest versus Gilbert Classical Academy the ‘Cats missed only four serves in the entire game and, according to Coach Galka, it was a total team effort “that helped us win the game.”
“We showed great improvement in this game from the previous game (against Valley Union),” she said. “Everyone served extremely well.”
Sebrina Martinez was named player of the game versus Fort Thomas. She had 20 service points in the victory. Stormee Galka and Maria Denny contributed 4 and 7 kills, respectively.
Co-players of the game Elissa Rodriguez and Sebrina Martinez paced the ‘Cats in the 3 – 0 win against Patagonia. Martinez had 17 service points, including two aces. She added two hits and four tips. Rodriguez had 16 service points, including four aces, four tips, and 1 hit. Stormee Galka, Lucy Sainz, Brandy Schneider, and Yana Lopez also contributed in the win. Coach Galka recognized the performance of Sidney Chenoweth for her proficiency at setting up her teammates for kills.
Lucy Sainz and Elissa Rodriguez led the way for the Bearcats in win over Hayden. Rodriguez had 14 service points while Sainz finished with 12 service points. Stormee Galka played well in all areas as she tallied six service points, eight hits, and six tips. Mariah Denny, Sebrina Martinez, Sidney Chenoweth, and Brandy Schneider also scored in the game.
Coach Galka said, “We played well at the net and everyone on the team scored so that was good.” But she also added the players need to work on improving their passing skills.
