The eighth-ranked Ray baseball team handily defeated Ft. Thomas last Tuesday 11 – 1 before suffering a 15 – 7 loss at No. 11 Alchesay, a team that figures to be among the 24-team playoff field along with the Cats.

Senior John Wernett was named Player of the Game after going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI in the win against Ft. Thomas. He also drew one of the Cats’ seven walks in the game.

Noah Warren hit a double and drove in a run, accounting for one of only five hits in the game for the Cats’, who took advantage of their seven free passes in the game.

Warren, a junior, combined with senior Austin Huffman to limit the Apaches to only a single run with each pitching three innings in the game. Huffman, the starter and pitcher of record, allowed a run on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Warren gave up only two hits, walked three and fanned five.

Upcoming schedule:  Apr. 26 vs. Pima and Apr. 27 at Superior (regular season finale). Both games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
