Bearcat coach, players to appear in All-Star games

Head coach Rene Pacheco and three players from the state runner up Ray baseball team were selected to appear in either the 2015 Arizona Baseball Coaches Association (AzBCA) Academic All-Star game or the 2015 Division III/IV All-Star game. Both games are scheduled to be played at Goodyear Ballpark Stadium on Saturday, May 30.

Division IV Section VI Player of the Year Destry Yocum and Section VI Second Team selection Douglas McPeak were selected to participate in the Division III/IV All-Star game, which is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Yocum was also named first team All-State, All-Division, and All-Section in addition to his Player of the Year honor.

Ray shortstop Derek Pacheco, who also was a first team selection on the All-State, All-Division, and All-Section teams, will be joined by his Coach-of-the-Year father Rene Pacheco in the AzBCA Academic All-Star game, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Coach Pacheco will serve as an assistant coach for the East team. Players from all four divisions will compete in the Academic All-Star game.

Like his players, Rene Pacheco was named All-State, All-Division, and All-State Coach of the Year.

“It’s a team effort; players and coaches,” Rene Pacheco said in an email to theCopper Basin News.
