Vista Fine Arts invites you to hear The Augsburg Centennial Singers in concert on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. at Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church, 3001 E. Miravista Lane, Catalina, located on the west side of Oracle Road, 3.7 miles north of Tangerine.

The 60-member Augsburg Centennial Singers were formed in the early 1990’s to revive the tradition of Gospel Quartets. Their mission is to communicate their faith, and to provide a fellowship for men who find joy in singing songs that have musical excellence, address the heart, reflect a variety of traditions, and touch each listener.

Under the direction of Al Reesnes, the Singers have been a part of the Twin Cities music scene for 20 years, In addition to local concerts, they traveled twice to Norway, toured Florida in 2006, Southern California in 2011 and are making their fourth concert tour to Arizona this month.

Mr. Reesnes has studied with Fred Waring, Robert Shaw and Roger Wagner, and directed high school choirs in Minnesota for 33 years, developing ensembles noted for the quality of their singing. Our Feb. 23 concert will feature folk songs, spirituals, familiar hymns and barbershop selections, opening with “Cry Out and Shout” by Norwegian composer, Knut Nystedt.

Initially composed of Augsburg alumni many of whom were members of an Augsburg Gospel Quartet during their undergraduate days, the reputation, musical excellence, and devotional atmosphere have attracted men from throughout the metropolitan area who embrace the values on which the organization is based. The printed concert program will provide background on the gospel quartet tradition and information on the College.

We hope you will take this unique opportunity to hear the nationally-known Augsburg Centennial Singers. Please invite your friends and join us for this outstanding program. The concert is free and open to the public. An offering will be taken. For more information, visit www.vistaumc.org or call 520-825-1985.
