Apache Junction– The Arizona Lecture Series, presented by the Apache Junction Unified School District Performing Arts Center, continues Monday, February 2, 2015, at 7 pmwith “Seasons in the Superstitions,” by wilderness photographer and off-trail explorer Lon McAdam. McAdam will blend photographs and back country knowledge to take you to seldom seen vistas covering all four seasons from the tops of summits in the Superstition Wilderness.
Moving to Apache Junction in 1975, McAdam honed his photography skills while hiking some of the wildest terrain that the Superstitions have to offer. His photographs have been published in Arizona Highways Magazine since 1981.
McAdam’s knowledge of the area was put to the test in 2007, when he departed on a nine-day solo trek into the Superstition Mountains. On day three, near Rough Canyon, he tripped and injured his knee. Using skills learned over years as an avid hiker and outdoor photographer, McAdam survived seven days and nights in the wilderness before being rescued. After surgery and a year of rehabilitation, he returned to the superstitions and the site of his accident with the same love and appreciation for this special part of the Arizona desert.
Coming on February 9, Melvin Aanerud presents the life, wit, and wisdom of Will Rogers in his own words – covering his life and his views on the issues of his day. The presentation includes special material dealing with Rogers’ engagements with the state of Arizona.
Tickets are available for $5 and may be purchased at the door, at the AJUSD District Office, or online at www.ajusd.org by clicking on the ‘Community’ tab, then ‘PAC Tickets.’
