Can you play the didgeridoo? That’s the droning, growling, howling Aboriginal instrument of Australia’s native people.

Bring your didge for free admission at Boyce Thompson Arboretum on Jan. 26 when the park observes Australia Day with guided tours of the outback collections (featuring Arizona’s own Aussie plants expert Paul Chambers) at 10:00 a.m. Dine on lamb and Aussie foods prepared by Chef Lucy Wing at noon ($25, reservations required, call 520.689.2723); then at 1:30 p.m. Gold Canyon resident Bernie Haley and others who practice the difficult technique known as “circular breathing” will fill the eucalyptus grove with the haunting drone of didgeridoos – while storyteller Dick Montgomery and others share anecdotes of Australia.

Tours and music included with daily admission of $9 or $4.50 for ages 5-12; read more at ag.arizona.edu/bta or connect at facebook.com/boycethompsonarboretum.
