Antonia C. Mercado

  Antonia C. Mercado, age 92, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Jan. 4, 2018, in San Tan Valley, Arizona.

  She was born on Feb. 5, 1925, in New Idria, California, to Santiago and Susanna Campa.

  She was known for her delicious tortillas, and she enjoyed spending time in her kitchen feeding her grandkids and all of their friends during their lunch hour.  She had a deep devotion to her religion and was very active in the church organizing the annual rummage sale, singing in the choir, and participating in all church activities. She was politically active in the Democratic Party and attended Democratic Conventions with her husband.

  Antonia was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob S. Mercado, her daughter, Belinda Dion, and her granddaughter, Audrey Mercado.

  She is survived by her daughters, Evangeline Rios of Tempe, Martha M. Gonzales (Conrad) of San Tan Valley, and her son Leonard of Grass Valley, California, 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

  Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and a mass following immediately at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1244 S. Power Road, Mesa, Arizona.  Burial immediately following at Mountain View Cemetery, 7900 E. Apache Trail, Mesa, Arizona 85207.
