Amparo “Ampy” R. Fontes

  Amparo “Ampy” R. Fontes, 92, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 in Superior, Arizona. 

  She was born in Sonora, Arizona to Manuel and Felicitas Fontes. Her family moved to Superior in 1959. She served our nation and began her nursing career in the US NAVY in Great Lakes, Illinois.  She served her community at the Miami Inspiration Hospital for 12 years. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She loved to cook and watch her Spanish programming. Ampy carefully watched the news and supported the Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Cardinals.

  Ampy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Manuel and Felicitas Fontes, and her brothers, Manuel R, Rodolfo R. and Salvador R. Fontes.

  Amparo was loved and will be missed by her son, Rudy Shifflett; her grandchild, Robert Shifflett; and two great-grandchildren, RJ and Nevaeh Shifflett.

  Services will be on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Superior, Arizona. Visitation is at 9 a.m., Rosary at  9:30 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Superior, Az.
