Alfredo B. Aguirre

  Alfredo “Shorty” B. Aguirre, 96, a native of Hayden and Dudleyville, Arizona, passed peacefully at his home with family by his side on Jan. 25, 2018.  He was born Dec. 18, 1921 in Hayden, Arizona to Cruz and Manuela Aguirre, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are brothers, Alfonso, Cruz, Augustine and Manuel Aguirre; daughter, Jennie Morales; and granddaughter, Alyssa Dominguez. His sister, Marta Contreras, passed away just hours after Alfredo.

  He is a veteran of World War II, entering the service on May 23, 1942. He was assigned as a rifleman to the 354th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division. His unit arrived in the European Theater of Operations in February of 1944 and was involved in combat operations throughout Europe as part of Patton’s Third Army, until the end of the war in May of 1945. His citations and decorations include: Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Presidential Unit Citation (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), European-African -Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

  He married his wife, Susie, on July 7, 1946, completing 71 years of marriage.

  He is survived by his wife, Susana “Susie” Aguirre; children, Olivia (Felix) Morales, the late Jennie (Joe) Morales, Alfredo Jr. (Eva) Aguirre, Cecilia (Cornelio) Lopez, Enrique Aguirre, Eugene (Toni Ann) Aguirre, and Terri (Larry) Bravo. His survivors also include sisters, Irene Velasco and Maria Buso; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

  Joint funeral services for Alfredo and his sister Marta will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden, AZ, with viewing at 9 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m.  Alfredo’s interment will follow at Dudleyville Cemetery.
