The holiday season has arrived and while many of us are lucky enough to have holiday food and the ability to provide gifts for family members and friends, there are others who go without and struggle just to put food on the their tables.
The Tri-Community Food Bank has experienced an increased need for food in the Tri-Community area. Thanks to individual donations and organizations such as SaddleBrooke Community Outreach, Knights of Columbus and the Mammoth Lions Club many families were able to have a nice Thanksgiving.
Now Christmas is swiftly approaching and the Food Bank is in need of more donations and help. The Tri-Community Food Bank facilitates a family adoption program each year for Christmas. The program provides Christmas cheer and gifts for less fortunate families for the holidays.
The Food Bank is in need of sponsors for Tri-Community families. Currently BHP has picked up 45 kids to sponsor and local schools are working with SaddleBrooke Community Outreach to sponsor 65 families but there is still a need for more sponsors.
When you volunteer to adopt a family, you will be provided with the children’s names, clothes sizes, interests and a wish list. You then provide gifts for the kids. Adult gifts are optional. A box of food is also a welcomed gift for the families.
You can choose the size of family you are willing to adopt and have the choice of delivering the gifts yourself or you can drop them off at the Food Bank to be distributed to the family. Requests to adopt a family should be made before Dec. 10.
To adopt a family or for more information about the program contact Joyce McClung at 520-385-4512 or email: mcclungjsm@theriver.com.
Volunteers are also needed at the Tri-Community Food Bank. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Joyce.
